Piers Island Emergency Procedures

In case of a medical emergency ... call 911!
If you see something that requires emergency assistance … Call 911!

For Other Emergencies:
IIn a large event, the community will be notified through the Public Alert Notification System (PANS) which includes alerts on the Alertable application.
For smaller events, that require a response by emergency services, the siren on the island will normally sound. The fire department and the emergency program are also notified.
  • In a major earthquake, the siren may not sound. When you feel the ground shake or receive an alert, Immediately drop, cover and hold on.
Review the Earthquake/No Evacuation procedures for further direction.
  • If there is a major fire, the siren will sound continuously (if there is power), you may hear loud hailers from the water, or receive an Alert on Alertable advising to … Evacuate the Island..
Review the Fire/Evacuation Full Evacuation procedures for further direction.
  • In other circumstances, if any action is required, residents may be notified by Telephone Tree (emergency program team members calling the registered phone numbers for the properties), email and/or Slack message (#emergency-safety channel).
