WATER SYSTEM
General Information:
Piers Island receives its drinking water from the Capital Regional District by way of North Saanich through two underwater lines which surface at Pump House One (PH1). The water pressure is reduced at that point and water is distributed though a 3-inch watermain that circles the island and ends up being stored in a 55,000 imperial gallon glass infused water tank on a high point of the SW corner of the island. The tank volume of water provides consistent water pressure to the 130 residential properties on the island and is supplementary to the Fire Department for fire fighting by way of 21 standpipes.
To ensure our drinking water is always safe to drink it is monitored by a state-of-the-art chlorination system at Pump House 2 (PH2) that supplements the water received from North Saanich.
The Water Team volunteers check and monitor the residual chlorine amounts and adjust accordingly on a weekly basis. Water samplings are scheduled and tested by an independent laboratory on a monthly basis.
